What is a Brigadeiro?

The Brigadeiro (pronounced Bɾiga'dejɾu in Portuguese) is a traditional Brazilian confection made of condensed milk, butter and cocoa powder. The fudge is typically formed into a ball, rolled in sprinkles then served in a cupcake wrapper. It can also be scooped into a bowl and eaten with a spoon.

Brigadeiros, called negrinho in the south of Brazil, are a favorite dessert for festive occasions. They are typically made at home as well as in shops throughout the country.

The confection was created in Rio de Janeiro in the 1940s by Heloisa Nabuco de Oliveira, whose family supported presidential candidate and, at the time handsome bachelor, Brigadier Eduardo Gomes.

As Brazilians have immigrated, Brigadeiros have become popular around the world. The term has evolved to describe a variety of truffles and other confections and at Soul Sweet Boutique we have created numerous flavors, each as unique and special as the original.
